The Rio Grande River stretches 2,000 miles from the high Rocky Mountains in Central Colorado to the very southern tip of Texas. The Southwest's lifeline of water no longer makes it to the Gulf of Mexico. The Great River (a.k.a. Rio Grande, Rio Bravo) that is and has been the lifeblood of the region for many centuries is under threat of becoming so overused that it is no longer a river. Water quality is also on the decline and this affects every community within 20 miles of the river.
Wild Angels is working to develop community water conservation practices and to build political energy to save the river and the many people and cultures that have thrived along her banks for hundreds of years. We are a member of the Alliance for the Rio Grande Heritage. During the coming year, we expect to collaborate with other Alliance member groups to shape a powerful message and to then organize and present public events to communicate that message to a broad audience. The greatest value that Wild Angels can bring to the mission of the Alliance will be in communicating with the public, both via live presentations and through the media. In addition, we will use our flight capabilities in a variety of ways to support the work of the Alliance.
